What Does Auto Insurance Cover?

Build Coverage Around What You Need.

  • Liability Coverage
Helps pay for injuries or property damage you cause to others in a covered accident.
  • Collision Coverage
Helps pay for damage to your vehicle after a collision, subject to your deductible and policy terms.
  • Comprehensive Coverage
Helps cover certain non-collision losses such as theft, vandalism, hail and other covered events.
  • Uninsured / Underinsured Motorist Coverage
Provides protection when you're injured by a driver who has no insurance or insufficient insurance, subject to the coverage and limits on your policy.
  • Medical Payments
May help pay covered medical expenses for you and your passengers after an accident.
  • Optional Coverages
Depending on the insurance company, additional options may include roadside assistance, rental reimbursement and other coverages.
Illinois Auto Insurance Requirements
Illinois requires most vehicle owners to maintain liability insurance. Current minimum liability limits are:

$25,000
Bodily Injury — per person
$50,000
Bodily Injury — per accident
$20,000
Property Damage — per accident

Illinois also requires minimum uninsured motorist bodily-injury coverage of $25,000/$50,000. State minimum coverage doesn't necessarily mean enough coverage.

What Affects Your Auto Insurance Rate?

Your premium can be affected by many factors, including:

  • Your Driving Record
Accidents and traffic violations may affect your rate.
  • Your Vehicle
Vehicle type, value, repair costs, and other characteristics matter.
  • Where You Live
Rates can vary depending on where the vehicle is primarily kept.
  • Drivers on Your Policy
Age, driving history and other rating factors can affect premiums.
  • Coverage & Deductibles
Higher limits, additional coverage and deductible choices can change your premium.
  • Insurance History
Your prior coverage history may also affect pricing, depending on the insurer.

That's why comparing insurance companies can make a difference.
